โฆ Synopsis
Combined thermogravimetric and analytic experiments were carried out to investigate the evolution of volatiles from electrodes during carbonization. Carbon electrodes impregnated with various pitches were heated from room temperature to 893 K with three 15 h constant temperature regions at 493 K, 633 K and 893 K. The weight change was continuously monitored. Condensable gas was collected in cold traps filled with dichloromethane. Concentrations of fourteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) were measured qualitatively and quantitatively at fixed intervals using a gas chromatograph and a mass spectrometer. Concentrations of methane and hydrogen in the noncondensable gas were measured at frequent intervals with a separate on-line gas chromatograph. The kinetic parameters were determined for PAH components using a first order rate expression.

This paper analyses the effect of side reactions, such as the reduction of oxygen or Fe(III), on copper deposition from dilute acid sulfate solutions. Fundamental studies with a rotating disc electrode were performed to determine the potential regions where the reactions take place and also to calcu
