This paper reports the birefringence effects on fiber Bragg grating FBG in sensors, optical communications systems, and devices. We have studied and analyzed the optical and mechanical property changes of FBG when the grating zone is subjected to a static transverse load in the case of plane strain

β¦ Synopsis
The induced-birefringence effects on uniform fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and linearly chirped FBG under lateral compression are experimentally investigated, respectively. The group delay (GD) characteristics of linearly chirped FBG under lateral compression are given for the first time. The birefringence of the FBG can be accurately controlled through tuning the voltage applied on piezoelectric transducer (PZT). The experimental results show good agreement with numerical simulations. First-order polarization mode dispersion (PMD) can be compensated with linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating.

## Abstract This article mainly depicts the sensitivity of the pressure sensor based on fiber Bragg grating coated with polymers of different ratio hardener and silicone sealant. The result shows that when the ratio is 1:13, the effect of the sensitivity of 1.94 Γ 10^β2^/MPa can be obtained. Β© 2008
The e ect of friction in ferrules on compression tuning characteristics of ΓΏber Bragg gratings (FBG) was observed and analyzed in this paper. It was demonstrated that the micro-bending of the ΓΏber in the ferrule would cause friction between ΓΏber and inner wall of the ferrule, and the friction would
