Secondary-treated wastewater was used to irrigate forage crops during two years (1994 and 1995). The bacteriological quality of the soil irrigated with both secondary treated wastewater (without chlorination) and with potable water was evaluated. The following three treatments were investigated in t

โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
A Nitrogenโ2D model to analyse the nitrogen dynamics during treated wastewater application to FILTER (Filtration and Irrigated cropping for Land Treatment and Effluent Reuse) systems was developed. The model simulates both water movement and solute transformations in twoโdimensional saturatedโunsaturated soil. The transformations of nitrogen in both organic and inorganic matters are considered. The transport equation includes the adsorption, nitrification, denitrification, volatilisation, and root uptake of the nitrogen with the general equilibrium equations. The effects of temperature, water content, N/C ratio, and pH on the nitrogen transformation are considered in the model.
The model is calibrated using field data from FILTER plots of 4โha during 170 days' effluent application and is validated using data from sewage irrigation in four lysimeters for 86 days in China. The model accurately predicts the changes in the groundwater table depths, as well as the concentration of nitrateโnitrogen and ammoniumโnitrogen in the subsurface drainage water outflows from the plots. The model was used to predict groundwater flow and nitrogen transport of the lysimeters using the same water flow and nitrogen transformation parameters, and the good agreement of the simulation value and experimental data shows the reliability of the model for the analysis of water and nitrogen transport. ## Abstract Historically many towns in inland Australia disposed of their treated sewage by pumping into local rivers. This is no longer a feasible proposition. Alternatives to river pumping include irrigation and/or aquaculture. As treated sewage effluent may contain large amounts of nitrogen, pho
The hydrological and the pesticide component of the root zone water quality model (RZWQM) were calibrated and evaluated for two di!erent Portuguese soil types: silty loam and sandy soils, under irrigated conditions. The RZWQM is a one-dimensional, process-based model, that simulates the physical, ch
The use of municipal wastewater for irrigation needs special management. This is due to the environmental and health hazards. In this study, secondary treated municipal wastewater was used in five irrigation treatments. These treatments were as follows: furrow irrigation with normal water (FN), drip
The development of a numerical method for modelling two-phase flows and solute transport, particularly with interphase exchange in porous media, is presented. The governing equations are derived to describe two immiscible and compressible fluids flows such as water-air and two-phase solute transport
