Minimal sets of generators of the orthogonal groups on nonsingular quadratic spaces over a finite field are studied. All such orthogonal groups are shown to be generated by two elements, with the possible exception of two low-dimensional cases. 1994 Academic Press, Inc.

We present an elementary proof that the nonassociative simple Moufang loops over finite prime fields are generated by three elements. In the last section, we conclude that integral Cayley numbers of unit norm are generated multiplicatively by three elements.
We give a complete resolution to a conjecture regarding the characterisation of linear complexities of span 1 de Bruijn sequences over nonprime finite fields. This contrasts with results for prime fields, where the characterisation is equivalent to an open question concerning permutation polynomials
It is demonstrated that the dual polar space of type Sp 2n (q), q>2, can be generated as a geometry by ( 2n n )&( 2n n&2 ) points. 1998 Academic Press ## 1. Introduction We assume the reader is familiar with the basic definitions relating to undirected graphs and linear incidence system or point-
