✦ Synopsis
By sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, we analyzed polypeptides solubilized from spore walls of the fission yeast Schizosaccharomycespombe. A prominent protein band whose apparent Mr was 23,000 was found on stained gels. This major spore wall polypeptide (23K) existed most abundantly in the cellular homogenate of sporulating cultures, while the corresponding band was almost absent in the extract from nonsporulating cultures.
