✦ Synopsis

The low-energy electron loss spectrum of poiy(vmy1 cinnamate) film was measured as a function of impact energy. EKcited states of the polymer were also investigated by an INDO/S MO calculaatlon using cinnanuc acid as a model. The c&ulated results agree well with the evperunental results both for trIplet and smglet excitatmns, indicatmg that the observed excttations (2 8,45,5 8 and 7 eV) are locabzed III the pendant group of the polymer.
