✦ Synopsis
A Iwo-colour pump and probe technique based upon a single @switched Nd/YAG laser combined with harmonic generation and Raman shifting is used to populate the short-lived (-c 8 ns) metal-l&and charge-transfer excited state of Cu'(2,2'biquinoline); and to probe the resonantly enhanced Raman scattering from the species in solution. The laser power dependence of the Raman spectra has been investigated and features attributable to the neutral 2,2'-biquinoline @and (biq) and radical anion (biq-.) are observed at different probe wavelengths indicative of a local&d excited state, (biq)Cu"(biq-.), on the timescale of the Raman experiment. Raman difference spectra provide supporting evidence for the assignments, and the changes in mode enhancement with excitation wavelength are consistent with the electronic absorption spectrum of the biq-, radical anion.
