Abstract
It is shown that for special directions in piezoelectric cubic crystals Stokes and antiβStokes waves couple anharmonically also with longitudinal phonons. The dispersion functions of the coupled waves can be represented by simple analytic expressions, if the coupling with the antiβStokes waves is neglected. The wave vectors of the coupled waves are either real or pairs of complex conjugate quantities. In the frequency regions of complexβconjugate wave vectors a coupled wave exists with an exponentially amplified longitudinal polariton wave. The properties of this wave are discussed in detail.
