✦ Synopsis
Fluorescence from jet-cooled adduets of styrene and aliphatic amines is reported. Exciplex-type emission is observed from styrene: tertiary amine adduets, as in previous solution work, and from styrene: secondary amines for the first time. The exciplexes are characterized by much longer decay times than the locally excited adducts, that are also found to fluoresce in the jet. The relation of these findings to solution photophysics and photochemistry of these systems is discussed. is believed to be a radical pair, that usually collapses to the final product.
