The caudal neurosecretory peptide urotensin II and its partial structural analog the hypothalamic and gastroenteropancreatic peptide somatostatin can be distinguished by the goby posterior intestine; urotensin II stimulates Na+ and Cl- absorption whereas somatostatin is without effect. Sandostatin (
