โฆ Synopsis
Excess volumes have been measured by means of a continuous-dilution dilatometer for (benzonitrile + benzene or toluene or o-xylene or m-xylene or p-xylene or ethylbenzene or styrene) at T = 298.15 K. V E values are negative over the entire range of composition for all mixtures. =V E m (minimum)= and =V E m (x = 0.5)= values of this series decrease in the sequence:
C6H5CH2CH3 q p-C6H4(CH3)2 q m-C6H4(CH3)2 q C6H5CH3 q o-C6H4(CH3)2q C6H5CH1CH2 q C6H6. The results are discussed by comparison with those for binary mixtures of an aliphatic nitrile and an aromatic hydrocarbon.
