Illustrative examples are presented which demonstrate that in spite of the fact that the same fundamental thermodynamic quantities EL and f," are involved in the definition of the rate of mass transfer and in the definitidn of the-vaporizahbn efficiency, a non-zero. finite and positive set of vaporization efficiencies always exist provided the conditions of Eq. (4) are satisfied; whereas, the existence of a similar set of overall mass transfer coefficients for a packed distillation column in the process of separating a multicomponent mixture is open to serious question.
