Abstract
Methanation vessels in ammonia production plants are subjected to high temperature and pressure. Process parameters deviations may cause not only operating troubles but damage to vessels and machines. The present paper is a case study in which actual temperature surpassed design values. Inspection carried out is detailed and results obtained in dimensional, hardness and metallographic checks are discussed to reach conclusions about future operating capabilities of the vessel.
