Much of the previou s work on dynamic reanalysis for machine tool structures has involved the use of Sensitivity Analysis . The magnitude of change is restricted by the convergence of the corresponding Taylor series. The approach of the authors has been based on an exact formula used elsewhere by several workers. The formulation is analytically unrestricted in scale but the work carried out by the authors has revealed both theoretical and practical restrictions on the scale of modification which can be incorporated . It has been established that two apparently different analytical approaches are algebraically identical , although the numerical approaches suggested by the two methods are likely to give results which differ markedly in reliability.
