✦ Synopsis

An exact analytical expression for the Stokes power generated by stimulated Brillouin scattering in a lossy medium is derived for the first time. The approach is based on a distributed, fluctuating source model in the undepleted pump regime, previously only rigorously applied to lossless media. A comparison with known approximations is performed.

Targeting methods direct a trajectory from an initial state to a chosen final state in a few iterations by making a small perturbation at the first step. Existing methods have two drawbacks: they require that the map is known so that it can be back iterated from the target region and they generally
