Analysis of the proton NMR lineshape in (TMTSF)2PF 6 near the spin density wave (SDW) transition at 12.1 K shows that both the metallic and SDW phases coexist with a discontinuous jump in the order parameter at the transition. This behavior is evidence that the transition is first order.
