✦ Synopsis


Thin Cu-C 60 films were prepared by vacuum co-deposition and investigated by Raman spectroscopy. Evidence was found for alteration of the intramolecular vibrational modes of C 60 due to the presence of Cu and also for activation of silent modes. The effects were attributed to the interaction at the interface between the metal and fullerene and to the related formation of interstitial metallic ions. This hypothesis is supported by structural evidence derived from x-ray diffraction and EXAFS.
