We introduce the TRD of the CBM experiment at the planned FAIR facility of GSI. A study on the optimization of the detector parameters in what concerns the electron/pion identification performance is presented. Results on tracking performance as well as on rate capability are shown.

The heavy-ion experiment CBM, considered as one of the core projects of the future accelerator facility FAIR in Darmstadt, will investigate nucleus-nucleus collisions from 10 to 45 AGeV, thus exploring the QCD phase diagram in the region of highest baryon densities.
