✦ Synopsis

The sensitivity of endoscopic biopsy ranges from 69 per cent to 99 per cent in routine clinical practice'.'. While multiple biopsy of gastric mucosal lesions is now standard practice, cytological analysis of smears from gastric brushings or washings is not widely performed3. In a prospective study, we have evaluated cytological examination in addition to endoscopic biopsy in the differentiation of benign and malignant gastric lesions.
