Initiation of protein synthesis by endogenous methionyl-tRNA in rabbit reticulocyte lysates is strongly inhibited when double-stranded RNA is added to, or heroin omitted from, the incubation mixture, but initiation by formyl-methionyl-tRNA is relatively uninhibited.
