✦ Synopsis

The proton magnetic resonance contact shifts have been studied for paramagnetic dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) complexes with Co n and Ni n cations in nitromethane solutions and in DMSO itself. The temperature dependence of the contact shifts in the range 20-100 °C was utilized for a more accurate determination of the electron spin-nuclear coupling constants. This study determines the mechanism of unpaired spin density transfer between the central ion and the ligand in the case of the Ni(DMSO)62+ complex-the transfer occurs through the a-bonding system.
