✦ Synopsis
The analysis of free amino acids in mammalian cell culture media can give valuable information on the metabolism of particular commercially valuable cell lines. Analysis of spent culture media indicates potential limiting nutrients. However, analysis over the whole culture period enables a kinetic approach to allow understanding of ammo acid uptake and potential strategies to improve media design. This communication details the use of a less commonly used HPLC protocol, indicating various advantages and disadvantages. Further, the batch kinetics of amino acid metabolism of two cell lines are discussed.
