✦ Synopsis


Classical methods for sampling and analysis of phthalates in air suffer from low sensitivity and high risk of contamination. A new approach based on enrichment on polydimethylsiloxane sorption tubes followed by thermal desorption Ž . and capillary gas chromatography᎐mass spectroscopy GC᎐MS analysis is de-Ž . scribed. The polydimethylsiloxane PDMS support coated traps allow sufficient enrichment while the phthalates can be desorbed quantitatively at moderate temperatures. In combination with capillary GC᎐MS analysis, high sensitivity, accuracy, and repeatability are obtained while the risk of contamination is strongly reduced.
