Classical methods for sampling and analysis of phthalates in air suffer from low sensitivity and high risk of contamination. A new approach based on enrichment on polydimethylsiloxane sorption tubes followed by thermal desorption Ε½ . and capillary gas chromatographyαmass spectroscopy GCαMS analysis is de-Ε½ . scribed. The polydimethylsiloxane PDMS support coated traps allow sufficient enrichment while the phthalates can be desorbed quantitatively at moderate temperatures. In combination with capillary GCαMS analysis, high sensitivity, accuracy, and repeatability are obtained while the risk of contamination is strongly reduced.
