β¦ Synopsis
M nodule management still exist. Important among these is the determination of which nodules require surgical removal because of the possibility of carcinoma, which may be treated nonsurgically, and which may be merely observed with reasonable safety. There is growing recognition21 61 91 10 of the relationship of the presence or absence of isotopic function in a thyroid nodule to the possible presence of cancer.
This report is part of a study designed to correlate clinical and histological aspects of nodular thyroids with graphic records of the nodules obtained by means of special equipment that traces actual distribution of radioactive iodine (1131) in all parts of the gland. In particular, the relation of carcinoma to isotopic function is presented.
