✦ Synopsis
Isostatic and quasi-isostatic permeation experiments were used t o characterize the permeability o f 1 -hexanol through polypropylene films. The quasiisostatic method was considered as an isostatic experiment at t h e limit a o f null purging stream flow rate. Permeability values obtained through t h e isostatic method showed dependency on t h e purging stream f l o w rate. The extrapolated value a t zero purging stream f l o w rate is in agreement with t h e data obtained via the quasi-isostatic procedure. Diffusion coefficient values were also determined. The isostatically obtained diffusion coefficients behave similarly t o P. However, the value a t zero f l o w rate differs significantly from the value obtained through the quasi-isostatic method. From these results the validity o f permeation experiments f o r the evaluation o f the diffusion coefficient is questioned.
