✦ Synopsis

We generated DNA probes for CD44 variable region exons I I (v6) to 14 (v9) and also for intronic sequences and examined the expression of aberrant CD44 transcripts in digestive tract carcinomas, colorectal adenomas and intestinal metaplasia of the stomach. The study used the reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction/Southern blot technique.

The activities of 5 enzymes involved in the pyrimidine metabolism were measured in xenografts of 8 human colon adenocarcinomas and in the corresponding primary tumors and normal tissues. The enzymes studied were thymidine kinase, thymidine phosphorylase, uridine kinase, uridine phosphorylase and thy
