โฆ Synopsis
An evaluation of a "Volatile Chlorinated Solvent Detector" was performed. The portable, hand-held detector was developed to monitor vapors of volatile chlorinated compounds above waste oils to determine if they can be recycled or should be treated as hazardous materials. The unit is run on batteries or with an A /C adaptor and is rechargeable. Five different oils were spiked with four different chlorine containing compounds. The spiked samples were analyzed both with chemical kits and with the detector. Our results indicate that the detector should be useful for a fast qualitative analysis and limited semi-quantitative analysis of the volatile chlorinated contaminants of oil samples under field conditions.
