✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The authors have studied the exchange of Cl^36^ between HCl and CH~3~Cl on W evaporated under high vacuum. One can interprete the kinetic results by classical mechanisms: Hinshelwood‐Langmuir and Rideal. However, a lot of experimental evidences permits to conclude that the metallic surface was almost covered with chemisorbed chlorine.
From this fact, a doubt arises about the validity of these mechanisms. The authors have established that the mechanism proceeds through these chemisorbed chlorines. This can be represented as follows:
