Abstract
A new synthesis of β‐hydroxyesters involving a reaction between a carbonyl compound, ketene and an alkyl‐orthotitanate is described.
The following carbonyl compounds have been studied: aldehydes, ketones, α‐diketones, α‐ or γ‐ketoesters. A reaction mechanism is proposed.
