The title compound, [Fe(C 5 H 5 )(C 14 H 18 NO 4 )]ÁCH 2 Cl 2 , has been synthesized by the reaction of ferrocenoylacetone with dl-serine ethyl ester in ethanol. Electron delocalization is observed within the enaminone moiety.

The title compound, C~21~H~14~Cl~2~O, was prepared from biphenyl-4-carbaldehyde and 2,4-dichloroacetophenone. Single crystals were obtained from acetone. The compound crystallizes with four molecules in the asymmetric unit, all of which deviate significantly from planarity.
