โœฆ Synopsis

Ethics committees in the area of the former Federal Republic of Germany exist on every medical faculty and State Physicians Council.

They are exclusively concerned with ethical problems of research involving human beings. The Federal Physicians Council initiated a permanent commission concerned with IVF, genetics, and embryo research. Other ethics committees are rare. In the former German Democratic Republic the situation is changing rapidly. Whereas prior to unification only one central commission was at work, the new states are preparing to adopt the present regulations of West Germany.
