✦ Synopsis

A method based on the energy balance equation for a cracked body is described for the determination of stress intensity factors and stress distribution in a crack plane from the COD measurements at several points at some distance from the crack tip. The efficiency of the approach proposed is supported by a number of examples.

Vickers indentation cracks are an appropriate tool to determine the crack‐tip toughness K~I0~ of brittle materials as ceramics from the total crack opening displacements. In addition, the residual stresses occurring in the surrounding of an indentation can be evaluated. The fracture mechanics proced

Kienzler and Hernnan recently showed that good and remarkably simple approximations of the stress intensity factors of cracks in beams can be obtained by bending theory estimations of the strain energy release as the crack is widened into a band of finite width. Their method has been based on equati

Analytical expressions of stress and displacement of anisotropic plates with double cracks near holes are derived by method of function of complex variables. The equations of equilibrium and compatibility, single valued condition of displacement and traction-free conditions along crack surfaces are
