✦ Synopsis

Sodium is used to a considerable extent for grain refining of aluminium. This has lead to the necessity of estimating sodium as a routine operation. The accepted wet methods, such as precipitation as sodium uranyl acetate, take severat hours to carry out and need the attention of a highly skilled analyst. It was thought that a flame photometric method would yield rapid results, sufficiently accurate for routine work.
