✦ Synopsis
37TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE CANADIAN SOCIETY OF CLINICAL CHEMISTS transmission of diseases due to HIV and hepatitis viruses is still significant. Safe and effective blood substitutes are under investigation. One of these substitutes is crosslinked hemoglobin (CLHb) purified by liquid chromatography and heat treated.
The effects of CLHb on 16 commonly requested blood analytes performed on the Kodak Ektachem and Hitachi 717 analyzers were investigated. Seven hundred and fifty ~tL of pooled serum was mixed with 0-250 pL of CLHb (10 g/L in lactate buffer). The samples were made up to 1 mL with lactate buffer as required.
The results above show the average of duplicate measurements for the Kodak Ektachem in SI Units. The results for the Hitachi 717 were similar.
Significant spectral interference from cross-linked hemoglobin occurred with TProt, AST, GGT, LDH, ALP and TBili.
