โฆ Synopsis
A generalized expression for the estimation of the power required in the spinning of long tubes is presented, in which the material is assumed to be perfectly plastic and to obey the Von Mises Criterion of yielding, and the tools are assumed to be rigid. The analysis can be applied in the design of the equipment. All of the possible parameters with the exception of diametral growth, which has a negligible effect, have been taken into account in determining the power required. The analysis is applied to the case of the spinning of long tubes in stainless steel, where the calculated axial force is compared with the force recorded whilst conducting actual shear-spinning experiments.
