Structure model of solids which considers the change in degree of overlapping of grains with progress of the solid consumption reaction on the surface of the grain was presented. The proposed model can describe the dynamic change in surface area which first increases to the maximum and then decrease

✦ Synopsis
The surface areas of four different chars, which were gasified to various levels of conversion, were measured by use of Nz BET method. The variation of surface area, S(X), during gasification was evaluated to be a function of porosity, S(E). The various types of variation of the surface area reported not only in the present paper but also in the previous papers, were well uniformly correlated by the function, S(E), for various types of parent coals and various conditions employed for char production. Criteria of the availability of the volume model, grain model and some pore models was discussed based on the above result.
