Abstract

An estimate of mean degree of dominance of genes affecting a quantitative trait in random mating populations cannot, in general, be obtained with the available methodology. Three mating designs have been proposed for the estimation of mean degree of dominance and mean gene frequency over loci. These designs are based on related S~1~, full‐sib and half‐sib families and on the families developed by simultaneous selfing and crossing the parents in either nested or factorial manner.
