Abstract

An accurate, practically convenient and rapid system has been developed for the estimation of biomass within immobilised cell derivatives, based on the chemiluminescent oxidation of luminol in the presence of haematin catalysts. Less than 1μ biomass can be assayed. It has been demonstrated that the presence of transition metal ions does not give rise to aberrant results. An example is given of its use in the study of biocatalysis.
