β¦ Synopsis
To obtain a guide for shortening the liquid crystal filling time, we devised a filling simulation model based on two-dimensional incompressible Stokes flow and studied its suitability. We found this model allowed us to predict the effect on the filling time of changes in the panel parameters, such as the cell gap. However, the measurements differed for the absolute values of the filling times. To predict the filling time, we improved the simulation model by taking into account the three factors of the gap variations caused by deformations in the panel, the array surface of the TFT substrate, and the surface tension, which are thought to affect the filling time. As a result, we improved the prediction accuracy of the filling time. Based on these tests, we found that deformation of the panel gap during filling affects the filling time in a controlled manner.
