## Abstract ## Background: Given the overlap between Parkinson's disease and essential tremor, we examined genetic variants in α‐synuclein (__SNCA__) as risk determinants for essential tremor. ## Methods: Samples from 661 essential tremor subjects and 1316 control subjects from 4 participating N

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A specific allele of the NACP‐Rep1 polymorphism within the α‐synuclein promoter was found to be associated both with Parkinson's disease and essential tremor. We repeated the association study on a large series of Italian patients with essential tremor using a panel of polymorphisms within the α‐synuclein gene. Our results did not confirm the association reported previously and failed to identify a α‐synuclein specific haplotype as susceptibility factor for essential tremor. © 2003 Movement Disorder Society

We investigated 30 patients with familial essential tremor (ET) for spinocerebellar ataxia type 12 (SCA-12) mutations. No patient presented a CAG repeat larger than 19, suggesting that familial ET and SCA-12 are distinct diseases.
Recent interest has focused on the largest pedigree reported to date with histologically proven Lewy body parkinsonism with an autosomal-dominant mode of transmission.' It consisted of descendants of several immigrants to the United States linked to collateral Italian descendants by a common ancesto
## Abstract ## Objective Genetic influences have been shown to play an important role in the etiology of osteoarthritis (OA), but the genes involved are ill‐defined. We studied the association between polymorphisms in the estrogen receptor α (ERα) gene and the prevalence of radiographic OA of the
## Objective: In the era of postgenomic research, linkage- and association-based strategies are beginning to reveal novel complex disease genes. using such an approach, a functional haplotype of the peptidylarginine deiminase 4 gene (padi4) has recently been identified as a gene conferring suscepti
