β¦ Synopsis
AMrae&-Electron spin resonance (ESR) data have been obtained for a well-~aphitizi~ and a poorly-graphitizing pitch as a function of heat-reagent time at reaction temperatures between 4W and 490Β°C. Me~uremen~ of ESR spin concentration and linewidth and of atomic C/H ratio have been used to delineate the kinetics of the ~ansfo~ation of pitch to coke. Correlations between the various ESR and constitutional parameters have been used to obtain information concerning the mechanism of carbonization.

The carbon-black electrode was prepared from Ketjen Black EC by blending with polymers such as Teflon and NBR. Carbon capacitors that consist of two carbon-black electrodes and elec
ESR studies of a carbon sample obtained from the partial oxidation of naphtha by the Shell process has been carried out with particular reference to the role of traces of iron present in it. The dried and evacuated sample displays a strong ESR signal that remains unchanged when NO, N,O, SO,, CO, and
