✦ Synopsis


The exchange between durosemiquinone triplet-ions (DQ; ,2Na+) and the parent quinone in THF was studied. Both sodium ions are transferred in the process, and ihe ESR spectrum in the presence of 2M duroquinone collapses into '/ lines. The sodium coupling constant in this spectrum is 1.93 MHz whereas in the absence of the quinone its value is 0.66 MHz only. Similarly, the sodium coupling constant of DQ: .Na+ . mcreases Sfom 1.01 MHz-in tk$z absence of quinone to 1.96 in 2M DQ. It is suggested that the complexes (DQ-, 2Na , DQ) and (DQ-, Na , DQ) are formed under these conditions.
