It has heen shewn that the ESR spectrum observed &er y irrabiatlon of solid ackmantaae is not due to 1 and 2 adamantyl radieeis hut to a substituted 1 methyl cycfohexyi radical resuiting from a C -C band rupture. The reversible thermal changes of the spectrum show that the cyclohexyt ring inter-converts between its two stable configurations with a temperature dependeat rate.
