was >ne of the first radicals being studied by electron spin resonance [1,2j. Little is known, however.
about the esr spectra of substituted triphenylmethyl radicals.
In our laboratory Lupinski [3J has measured the esr spectra of some of these compounds but at that time f.he technique of obtaining highly resolved spectra was not sufficiently developed to obtain a reliable set of splitting constants. Therefore we have repeated Lupinski's measurements and also studied some other compounds. In this note we want to report the esr spectra of some chlorine-substituted triphenyl-methyl radicals. These were prepared in vacuum by reaction of the chloromethanes with finely divided silver. The spectra were recorded at room temperature.
