## Abstract Doping of pure KCl with oxygen in a closed system leads to formation of a new oxygen containing centre. Absorption, fluorescence, and ESR spectroscopy have been used together with chemical analysis to characterise the centre. It is suggested that the centre is an O^2βˆ’^~2~‐anion vacancy

## Abstract In OH‐free NaCl(Mg) and KCl(Mg) electron centres are produced by electrolytical coloration and β€œdecoloration”. It is most probable that the centre is a Mg atom in a vacancy pair. The oscillator strength of its absorption band is determined.
