✦ Synopsis
The errors associated with calculating air mass (AM) 1 short-circuit current values on cells with non-linear responsivities from spectral quantum efficiency data with either AM 1 light bias or no light bias are pointed out and quantified. These errors can be minimized if the cell is placed under a d.c. light bias such that the short-circuit current is approximately 0.37 of the AM 1 value. Finally, data showing departures from linearity on a crystalline silicon cell and on several amorphous silicon cells are presented.
