Erosion is a natural phenomenon, but the process can be drastically accelerated by the misuse of land and by man's ignorance of the effects of weather and climate on his essential and irreplaceable soil. It is, therefore, of the greatest importance that agricultural meteorologists should be aware of recent developments in the scientific assessment of erosion, so that they may be able to give assistance in minimising this threat to our food supplies.
It is the second section of this publication, dealing with the Measurement of Erosion, which is of prime interest to meteorologists. It contains 18 papers from areas as diverse as Nigeria,
