✦ Synopsis

This paper describes the practical aspects of designing a sound working environment for a CAD system. Installation requirements with reference to both the designer and the computer suite are examined. AIternative designs for work stations were proposed and evaluated. The actual layout of the COMPASS (computer orientated management, production and scheduling system) suite is described. The needs of the designer working within a CA D system are considered and some general observations and conclusions concerning the installation of CA D systems are made.
