✦ Synopsis

The terrestrial magnetic field is of basic importance for the extraterrestrial phenomena in near-earth outer space. It is by far the most important factor for the "geography", i.e., distribution of the near-earth plasma, and also strongly influences the "ecology", namely interaction and energy exchange between different plasma populations at altitudes ranging from 100 to 100000 km. The interaction is largely carried by electric currents whose magnetic field contributes significantly (at least in higher altitudes) to the total terrestrial magnetic field.
