Synopsis
Diagrams set up as a function of an electrode potential and temperature show the conditions of thermodynamic equilibrium of all substances which may exist in the three-component systems 0-S-Al, 0-S-Cr and 0-S-Fe.
These diagrams give an overall picture of the Circumstances where, in the presence of gaseous atmospheres containing SO3, SO2 andlor sulphur vapour, aluminium, chromium and iron may be covered by a layer of oxide, sulphate or sulphide. According to some hypotheses, this may lead to a predetermination of the conditions of no-corrosion and corrosion of the metal in the presence of these atmospheres. * This paper is a revised version of Cebelcor's Rapports Techniques RT.266 written in French, and mentioned hereafter as reference

The sulfidation of Fe-20%Cr-30%Mn, Fe-25%Cr-20%Mn and Fe-25%Cr was studied at 700 "C in H2-H2S and the oxidation and sulfidation in H2-H,0-H,S after preoxidation in H,-H,O. The sulfidation rate is strongly increased for the Mn-containing alloys, layers of (Mn,Cr)S and (Mn,Fe)Cr2S4 are formed. Also
